I saw this easy dumpling recipe on social media and it looked so simple and absolutely delicious. I just had to try it. Wow! It's really amazing and full of flavor. It's such an easy weeknight dinner and we have no leftovers whenever I make this!

🩷 What you'll love about this recipe

▪️One pan! Everything is mixed together in one pan and then thrown in the oven. It is incredibly simple and easy to make!

▪️If you don't have a Trader Joe's near you, the ingredients can be found at any regular grocery store. See ingredient notes below for alternative suggestions.

▪️This meal is so full of flavor, it will taste like you spent hours on it. Don't tell anyone!

🥘 Recipe Ingredients

You’ll need the following ingredients to make this amazing viral dumpling bake.

📝 Ingredient Notes

  • Trader Joes Chicken Gyoza Potstickers - any frozen Asian dumpling or potsticker will work.
  • coconut cream - I like to use coconut cream instead of coconut milk since it's thicker and creamier and will produce a richer flavor in the end. If you can't find coconut cream, try to use a full-fat coconut milk.
  • Trader Joe's Soyaki sauce - if you're unable to get this, any teriyaki marinade or sauce will work.
  • garlic and ginger cubes - I keep these on hand in my freezer and get mine at Trader Joe's. I've seen them in regular grocery stores too. It is just frozen cubes of fresh garlic and ginger and makes it so quick and easy to pop one in any recipe. Fresh garlic and fresh ginger can be substituted if you are unable to find these. 1 cube of garlic equals 1 clove, and 1 cube of ginger equals 1 teaspoon.
  • red curry paste - I get this at the regular grocery store in the Asian section. Trader Joe's also has a Thai red curry sauce that you can use. My store was out when I went shopping for this. Use more of the sauce, since it is ready to use. The paste is concentrated.
  • baby bok choy - I believe the other recipes floating around for this use spinach, but my family doesn't love spinach, so I use baby bok choy instead. I think it make more sense in this recipe for me anyway. You can use whatever green veggies you like though.
  • crunchy chili onion - go light on this if you are not into spicy, but I think this really, really makes this recipe. I get mine at Trader Joes, but you can get a version of this at regular grocery stores. It is in the Asian section and might be called chili crisp oil or something like that.

📋 How to Make this One-Pan Dumpling Bake Recipe Step-By-Step

Here are some visual instructions. Full instructions with exact ingredients can be found in the Recipe Card below.

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Add the coconut cream to a 9" x 13" baking dish. The top of the coconut cream may be hard, and that's okay. Just pour it in. It won't look great, but trust the process! Add the soyaki sauce to the dish.

To the dish, add the curry paste, the garlic and ginger cubes and then stir! I try to break apart as much of the hard parts of the coconut cream as possible, but if it looks like the picture below, it's totally fine. Again, trust the process!

Add the frozen dumplings, lining them up in a row. Add the cleaned and chopped bok choy around the dumplings. If you have to put some on top, that's fine too. Wrap the dish tightly in aluminum foil. Bake for 30 minutes.

The first picture below is how it looks coming right out of the oven. The second picture is after stirring everything together - looking good! The third picture is after adding all the toppings. Here I used chopped fresh cilantro, sesame seeds, sliced green onions and the crunchy chili onion oil.

Serve over white rice for a complete meal. I prefer jasmine rice. Trader Joe's usually has frozen precooked jasmine rice in the freezer section that you can heat up in the microwave to save more time.

💡 Recipe Tips

Make sure each dumpling is mostly submerged in the sauce when putting in the dish. If some is not, that is ok.

The red curry paste is also a little spicy, so if you are unsure, maybe try two tablespoons for the first time making this.

You can get the sauce mixed together ahead of time and cover the dish and place in the refrigerator. Add the dumplings and veggies right before cooking. Adding the dumplings will cause them to thaw, and they can become mushy.

Time Saving Tip
I like to keep most of these ingredients on hand for when I don't feel like cooking and need to throw a quick dinner together with minimal effort. Frozen stir fry veggies can be kept for this reason.

🫙 Storage & Reheating

Storage: Store this in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Reheating: Reheat in a microwave or oven (covered) until hot. I don't recommend the stove for reheating.

Freezing: You can freeze the prepared dish unbaked in an airtight container. Thaw in the refrigerator before baking.

🧂Additions & Substitutions

Additions: Experiment with flavor variations!

  • drizzle with sriracha sauce
  • drizzle with spicy mayo sauce
  • top with a splash of lime juice

Substitutions:

  • pork, shrimp or veggie dumplings can be used
  • alternatives for soyaki sauce - try a combination of soy sauce, fish sauce (small amount), brown sugar, sesame oil (small amount) and rice vinegar
  • other veggies I might try - sliced green peppers, zucchini, broccoli, onions
  • instead of the red curry paste, try yellow curry paste or green curry paste

It can be made vegan. Check to make sure the curry paste and the dumplings you are using are vegan and you are good to go!

What's the difference between a potsticker and a dumpling?

A potsticker is a dumpling, but is called a potsticker usually because of how it's prepared. For this recipe, if your package says potsticker or dumpling, both will work fine.

  • 13.5 ounces coconut cream
  • ¼ cup Trader Joe’s soyaki sauce
  • 3 tablespoons red curry paste
  • 1 frozen garlic cube
  • 1 frozen ginger cube
  • 16 ounces chicken gyoza potstickers
  • 3 heads baby bok choy small

Topping

  • green onion sliced
  • sesame seed
  • cilantro minced

Instructions
