Instructions

  • Melt chocolate in a bowl over hot, simmering water. Remove from heat and let sit for 20-25 minutes to thicken slightly.
  • Coat bottom third of spoon with chocolate. The chocolate should be thickened to where it won't run down the spoon when held upright. If it does, let the chocolate sit a little longer.
  • Place spoons in foam block standing upright and put in the freezer for 10 minutes to harden.
  • While spoons are in the freezer, place the candy canes in a ziploc bag and crush with mallet or rolling pin into small pieces.
  • Remove spoons from the freezer. Fill the bowl part of the spoon with chocolate and sprinkle with crushed candy cane. Set spoons on a plate so the chocolate doesn't spill out of them.
  • Place spoons in freezer or refrigerator to harden.
  • Store in a sealed container, or wrap individually. Keep the spoons in the refrigerator until ready to use.

Notes

Although I melted the whole 10 ounces of chocolate, you probably will only use about half of it. It's easier to work with the chocolate when you have more than you need, so you're not scraping the bowl constantly. Just save the leftovers for something else. It makes a great dip for strawberries!
