Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • cup yellow onion chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 14.5 ounces fire-roasted diced tomatoes canned
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil and sauté onions with salt and pepper until they begin to get soft. (2-3 minutes).
  • Add garlic to pan. Sauté for another minute.
  • Add basil and cook for a minute until fragrant.
  • Add fire-roasted diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and sugar. Cook for 5 minutes until heated through. Taste to see if any additional salt and pepper are needed.

Notes

Makes about 2 cups of sauce. Serving size is ½ cup.
